When I was just reading about the California fires and it made me think about the importance of taking action when the opportunity presents itself. I reflected back to my time in 2017 when I had a lot of changes happen in my life. I ended a long term relationship. I moved to a new city. Honestly, my life was basically starting over. I felt lost. I had all the best intentions in the world but things had not turned out the way that I had expected. Somehow around the end of November, I found myself on a trip traveling through Santa Rosa. There had recently been some devastating fires in the town and the signs of it were everywhere. You could see the path that the flames had gone cutting through the town like a knife. Homes and cars would be melted remnants of what they were and the strangest thing was that neighboring houses could right next to where the flames had been but because they hadn’t caught fire they stood untouched. Walking through the neighborhoods was a very touching experience. What found were posters and signs from neighbors and organizations listing resources for the community. There was a plan to rebuild. A plan to help. It was touching in a way despite the horrible circumstances. It really hit home to me the chaotic nature of our lives and how it is impossible to truly plan for the future.

Prepare For The Future

Life is so hard sometimes and it is so easy to focus on the things that we failed at. Seeing events like the ones depicted in the pictures reminds me in a strangely comforting way that there is a lot of things that are out of our control. The best thing that we can do is to look forward. Assess where we are in life and where we want to be. Whatever the circumstance the only way to accomplish the goal is by continuing to push forward. Life is going to throw horrible things our way. We don’t know what will happen but if we focus on the things that matter and are resolute we will persevere.

To all those in California that are currently facing the hardship of the fires there right now, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
